Gene Feighery ended her career in financial services to become a fulltime homemaker and mother to four children. Gene subsequently went on to study Landscape Architecture and Design at third level. A community organiser/activist, she has worked on a number of issues in Dun Laoghaire including the proper planning and sustainable development of large scale proposals for the area such as Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, Dun Laoghaire & Blackrock Baths, Killiney ‘OO’ Zoning, Monkstown Ring Road, and designation of Architectural Conservation Areas.

Gene is a member of An Taisce, The Irish Georgian Society, Royal Horticultural Society, and the Garden Landscape & Design Assoc. (GLDA). She believes that care for the environment, sensitive planning and community participation in decision making are key elements in securing genuine long term quality of life. She believes that Dun Laoghaire has a unique heritage and that protecting this heritage will secure its prosperity.
