Cuffe calls for reform of licensing laws after Garth Brooks fiasco

The Green Party has today welcomed the decision by Dublin City Council to reduce the number of Croke Park Garth Brooks concerts from five to three. Residents have been put through unnecessary stress due to the process to date, but today’s resolution has left tens of thousands of concert goers unsure of what happens next. Both of these situations were avoidable. Speaking this evening, Green Party representative for Dublin’s north inner city, Cllr Ciarán Cuffe said: “Today’s decision is a step in the right direction for Dublin residents, however, the law clearly needs to change. Tickets for big events such as these should not be made available for sale prior to the granting of a licence by a local authority. Thousands of Irish people and tourists are now left in limbo and our reputation will unquestionably be damaged. I am calling on the Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, to amend the law and ensure that this type fiasco doesn’t happen again, as it makes a mockery of the planning and licensing process.”
