Green Party MEP Ciarán Cuffe has welcomed the selection of Dublin to the EU’s latest mission tocreate climate-neutral and smart cities. The “Cities Mission” aims to deliver 100 climate-neutral andsmart cities by 2030. Under this mission, Dublin will design and implement policies to bring the city toclimate neutrality, with technical guidance and financial support from the EU. Cork will also take partin this mission.Green Party MEP Ciarán Cuffe said:“The Cities Mission is a fantastic opportunity to harness the innovation and experimentation already atwork in our city and channel those into transformational climate policies. A climate neutral Dublin hasthe potential to deliver huge benefits to its residents, not least with less traffic, less pollution, and lowerenergy bills. My congratulations to both Dublin and Cork on their successful applications, and I lookforward to supporting their efforts on this ambitious and important mission.”Dublin is one of 100 EU cities selected by the European Commission to take part in the Cities Mission,from a pool of over 370 applicants. As part of the Mission, a Climate City Contract will be designedand implemented in Dublin, setting out plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. This process willinvolve a broad group of local stakeholders. Horizon Europe will provide €360 million in funding tothe Mission covering the period 2022-23. Additional funding and financing opportunities will also bemade available.
