At the launch of their European Manifesto, the Green Party’s four European candidates have a simple message - now it the time to vote for climate action.Ireland has been let down by MEPs from political parties who have been proven to have delayed and blocked climate action at European level. 1Central to the Green Party manifesto is a commitment to strong climate action spread fairly across Europe so that we protect our planet for future generations. Green Party MEP candidates want to see:Strong EU action against climate breakdown and nature collapse.European support for housing provision in Ireland.CAP reform to support sustainable farming practices and family farms.Better working conditions, pay, and social solidarity across the bloc.Ciarán Cuffe for Dublin said:“This is the climate change election. Never before has a Number 1 vote for the Green Party mattered more.“Dublin is choking. The everyday pressure on ordinary Dubliners is immense - sitting in gridlocked streets, saving every penny to get a house, paying extortionate rents. We are a European capital and we need to take the best of what is done in other European cities to make this city liveable again.”Grace O’Sullivan for Ireland South said:“Not only a climate emergency, but it's also a biodiversity emergency.“Habitat destruction, pollution & plastics must be regulated and rolled back. The Green Party are committed to increasing ambition at European level to deal with this.”Saoirse McHugh for Midlands North West said:“We need to reform CAP so that payments are rebalanced to benefit small and medium sized farms. The Green Party want to link CAP payments to sustainable farming practices.”Clare Bailey for Northern Ireland said:“The European project is about solidarity, and we must look to enhance social solidarity across Europe. Better minimum incomes, better working conditions - these need to be legally enforceable across the continent.”ENDSNote to the Editor:Climate Action Network (CAN) report showing Irish political parties delayed (Sinn Féin) or blocked climate action (Fine Gael, Fianna Fail) over the lifetime of the last European Parliament. http://bit.do/CANreportIssued 9th May 2019, uploaded 3rd June 2019
