Cuffe welcomes financial lifeline for Eurostar

News

Transport Coordinator for the Greens/EFA Ciarán Cuffe MEP has welcomed news that Eurostar has received a €290 million financial lifeline from French Railway SNCF and other investors. This follows several public statements in support of the company, including a letter signed by over 60 cross party MEPs.

Ciarán Cuffe MEP said:

"Saving the Eurostar company means job security for many across France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. As travel cautiously opens up in the coming weeks, ensuring the survival of the Eurostar will also provide a much-needed boost to European economies. It is also good news for the climate. This financial package to secure the Eurostar is essential for ensuring sustainable transport and rail connectivity across Europe."
